THE SONG MAŁY POWSTANIEC

On August 1st at 10:00 AM, hundreds of children participating in the city program "Lato w Mieście" gathered at Castle Square in Warsaw to sing insurgent songs. This event serves as a tribute to the youngest participants of the Warsaw Uprising.

The annual event, organized by ten!he Education Bureau of the Capital City of Warsaw and the AVE Foundation, aims to remind the youngest—13- and 14-year-olds from the "Zawiszacy"—of their childhoods that were abruptly interrupted by war. While they didn't run through the streets of Warsaw with guns, they assisted insurgents by delivering mail, newspapers, and selflessly caring for the wounded in hospitals.

During the gathering, children learn about insurgent stories and, together with a band, perform several songs from the Warsaw Uprising era. Afterward, singing, the participants proceed to the Little Insurgent Monument to light candles and lay flowers.Alamy

All young residents of the capital are invited to participate, and parents are encouraged to come to Castle Square with their children!
