In our neighborhood, there is the Białołęcki Children's University (BUD), run by the AVE Foundation with the support of the City of Warsaw. Students aged 5-13 attend weekend lectures and exercises here, earning real academic titles, from Bachelor's to Master's, Doctor, Associate Professor, and even Professor! They also have their own student books, where they carefully collect signatures from their lecturers.
"BUD has been a real hit," says Bartłomiej Włodkowski, head of the AVE Foundation, who is called "the rector" by the students. "There is a noticeable lack of extracurricular activities for children in Białołęka. To address this, we referred to the popular and fashionable concept of a children's university. But we wanted to avoid repeating stereotypes. That’s why what sets our university apart is the combination of a humanities school formula with a technical university. The program includes not only physics, chemistry, and mathematics but also ethnography, history, journalism, and literature."
Children do not only participate in lectures but, most importantly, in exercises during which, in smaller groups of 20-30 students, they independently carry out various experiments and activities.
